Nature has been one of my best teachers, showing me reflections from swamps in Georgia to the Grand Tetons of Wyoming. We can only reflect what's inside of us, so let's be the joy and happiness we want to see in the world.
Sunset, Sunrise
I confess, I see more sunsets than sunrises.
I know that the sun rises after each difficult day of loss, and that the sun sets each night to cover me with a peace that passes all understanding. All is well.
Why pink flamingos? On the prairie?!
I grew up on a Hereford cattle farm, in the middle of a wildlife paradise of lakes and ponds that were home to ducks, geese, deer, gophers and rabbits. In that setting, my mother had a flock of plastic pink flamingos, which embarrassed me as a kid, since they didn't quite fit in! After Mom's sudden death, I realized they were part of her effort to transform what could be a hot, humid, or miserably dry prairie into something with color and a bit of humor. Many readers of my books have given me flamingos to help celebrate the gifts of our moms. I hope my photos inspire you to think about all the gifts of your mother's life that you easily took for granted.
