Why pink flamingos?
On the prairie?!
I grew up on a Hereford cattle farm, in the middle of a wildlife paradise of lakes and ponds that were home to ducks, geese, deer, gophers and rabbits. In that setting, my mother had a flock of plastic pink flamingos, which embarrassed me as a kid, since they didn't quite fit in! After Mom's sudden death, I realized they were part of her effort to transform what could be a hot, humid, or miserably dry prairie into something with color and a bit of humor.
Many readers of my books have given me flamingos to help celebrate the gifts of our moms. I hope my photos inspire you to think about all the gifts of your mother's life that you easily took for granted.
