Dee Dee’s first public display of optimism came at age 10. Despite her mother's concern that a lemonade stand on a rural, gravel road in South Dakota would not succeed, Dee Dee believed her new cash register would be busy on a very hot day.  And she was right.  Why?  A construction crew moved into the area that morning to resurface the road. When they saw the lemonade stand, they came, parched, carrying gallon containers for lemonade to help them survive the afternoon heat.

Thanks to her mom, being a farmer’s daughter and some of life’s hard lessons, Dee Dee learned values like optimism, gratitude and quality that have been key to her 22 years of staff development.
